What a Slave sounds like when you've been awake for 31 hours

Willa BrandtNurse, night shift. Big Cypress changed how I think about time.1 min read

Night shift Thursday into Friday, a bad one — two codes, one of which went the way they go. Drove to SPAC on no sleep because the ticket was already bought and because I did not want to be in my apartment.

Slave closed the show. If you've never heard it: it's a long slow climb, patient to the point of cruelty, and then it opens.

I had held it together for thirty-one hours and I did not hold it together for that. Full ugly crying on a lawn in Saratoga surrounded by strangers who correctly decided to leave me alone about it.

I've thought a lot about why that song and not another one. I think it's because it doesn't rush you. It just keeps climbing at its own speed and trusts you'll get there.

Did this land? Upvotes are how a story climbs the chart.3 comments

Okay, I did not expect to be emotional about a website today.

Respectfully I think you're a full point too low on that version, but I love the spreadsheet.

I have never seen anyone describe the lot economy accurately before now.
